I haven't discussed Vanderbilt football in this space in... well, I believe never.
That changes now.
I am now a fan of James Franklin. This dude can own a press conference.
A few years back, I got to sit in at a press conference with Billy Donovan, fresh off his back-to-back NCAA Championship. When Donovan entered the room and sat behind that microphone - the entire room was mesmerized by him. Myself and about a hundred other grown men hung on every single word. It was odd how he had that effect on everyone there, and it was one of those things that I didn't even realize it until it was over. But he had completely captivated the room.
James Franklin ain't Billy Donovan. But what I saw tonight was a bit of a glimpse of that evening. Franklin owned that room there. I don't know if he's been doing this all season, but if he can continue to have this presence - in media rooms, press conferences, and most importantly - in the living rooms of recruits, this guy may actually change things at Vanderbilt. And from what I saw tonight, I hope he does. This is a guy that I want to be successful in the SEC.
